What Cannot Be Shown
Acrylic and modeling paste on canvas, 2026
48 × 60 in
This one is about feelings people keep out of sight, held down under the noise of their own thinking and never shown to anyone outside. There are faces in the painting, each with a different emotion in it, and none of them sit where the eye goes first. You have to search the surface. When you find one you have pulled it out of its hiding place and made it visible, which is what I wanted the looking to do. It takes some work, and I left it that way. Once you have seen a face there, you cannot unsee it.
