I have watched scouts set up camp, and I chose colors close to what is there at night, soil and rock, mostly grey. The fire is on the left, in brown and yellow. It is built to keep the campers safe until morning, and in the painting its warmth has gone much further than a fire's warmth really goes. The tent, the ground, the air around them are all inside it. I let the heat spread until nothing in the picture was left outside its reach.
