This was the first canvas I painted for the exhibition, and I wanted to begin with something simple. I had no large idea. I had a question, and the question was how light would look as it passed through a bubble of water in the second before it bursts. That was the whole of it. I followed the question and let the paint answer. Starting small stayed a habit after this one, and most of what is here began the same way, with a small thing I wanted to see.
